Verbal assessment (describe the strongest and weakest aspects of the thesis; especially in case of a low assessment 3-4, concrete reproaches need to be expressed):
The topic – testing willingness to pay to prevent climate change – is very interesting, and, as the author states, there might be strong link between willingness to pay and data presentation/understanding.
Structure of the thesis is logical and easy to follow. The abstract would merit reformulating, text is difficult to understand and the hypothesis here is formulated in a complicated way. Generally, the abstract should inform the reader about the main findings and value added of the study. The Czech version seems to me being a product of google translator, the text is hard to understand.
Theoretically, the thesis is rooted in cognitive psychology and contains background for a reader about cognitive biases regarding climate change and communication of environmental issues. What I miss in this part is a deeper literature review on economic aspects of the topic.
The practical part contains much of the value added of this thesis. Data collection by surveys must have required considerable effort. The author deals carefully with the experiment design, target groups and limits of the research. The practical part is methodologically rigorous. The conclusions are relevant to the aim of the thesis. I appreciate a very clear interpretation of results obtained and limitations of the analysis. I miss here relating the results to existing studies/literature, but overall, the conclusions are very informative to the reader.
Formally the thesis meets all criteria, mistakes and typos are negligible. Citations are frequent and identifiable, literature is recent and abundant.
Complex assessment (it is necessary to state whether the thesis complies with the Methodological guidelines of the Faculty of Economics, University of Economics, Prague as concerns the quality of the content, the extent and formal requirements and whether the thesis is being recommended to the defense or not; the thesis can also be nominated to a special award, etc. ):
This thesis meets all quality and formal requirements. Value added is obvious and consists in testing and interpreting data collected from a survey. Reflecting the aim, the thesis concludes that presenting environmental issues in an easy and illustrative way may influence everyone’s ecological behavior and his/her personal contribution.
Questions to the defense:
1. As far as I understood, a large portion of respondents are very young people. Do you think that including more higher aged respondents would change the results significantly?
Suggested grade: excellent/very good
