Goals The goals of the thesis are introduced clearly and accomplished. 10 9 Methodology: The study is based on a literature review across various fields and a
comparison of conflic;ng approaches. Methods seem to be
adequate. However, to make the findings clearer some quan;ta;ve indicators would be useful.

I appreciate the theore;cal part of the thesis - unlike many other papers on CSR the author tracks the concept further into the
history long before the concept has been coined. 20 20

Other comments:
The thesis covers an important topic of the CSR. While conduc;ng a literature review on the CSR across various fields the author realized there is a conflict in the understanding - although business/
management studies worship CSR as a sound instrument making the world to be a beber place, research from various fields of social sciences (mostly anthropology) paints a very different picture of the CSR reality. In order to understand the conflict the author inves;gates specific epistemic and methodological processes behind the produc;on of such a conflic;ng understanding. The author points out that the business or management study literature tends to pay a lible, if any, aben;on to outcomes or efficiency of CSR programs on recipients, larger communi;es, environment, etc. Also, in this literature CSR is not being scru;nized within a wider context of its inherently social reality.
Among other reasons for the conflict in the understanding of the CSR, the author iden;fies the differences in a research methodology - while anthropologists base their evidence on a detailed ethnographic research method of the par;cipant observa;on fieldwork, the understanding
constructed by business and management studies authors is built on much less accurate data ofen coming from the very CSR organizers themselves.
Ques0ons or comments to be discussed during the thesis defense:
The cri;que of CSR has been around for a long ;me. Since the business/management studies literature produces such a naive and decontextualized understanding of CSR, why do you think the authors don’t reflect on/learn from a detailed studies from other fields of social sciences?
