This theses From Trade Business to Industrial Mass Production. The history of Family Company Roln´y 1862-1939 deals with historical development of clothing factory Roln´y which was producing lounge suits and clothing for boys
and young men. It outlines the relationship between ready-made clothing, as a branch of industry, and rising standards of living in 50’s of 19th century. Paper traces the history of the family company from its foundation by Frantiˇsek Roln´y, describes assortment and ways of trading products.
Main part of this paper is devoted to the period of Arnoˇst Roln´y’s management of the company. It tries to map the ways of financing the production and
capital investments. It focuses mainly on business strategies of the management, modernization of retail and production, as well as development on the
field of promotion of ready-made clothing. Especially the last one was heavily influenced by the rivalry between the Roln´y company and Nehera company (both were seated in Prostˇejov).
Roln´y’s most important inspirational source was a famous
”self-mademan“
Tom´aˇs Bat’a who had transformed his small shoe workshop into one of the biggest companies in Czechoslovakia by rationalization of the production and retail.
Main ambition of this work was to draw a portrait of a businessman in
Czechoslovakia 1918-1939, to describe his commercial program, methods and strategies which were used to build a successful and one of the biggest readymade clothing factory.
