Comments and Questions:
The thesis „Gender equality reflected in CSR of key financial institutions in the Czech Republic“ by Anna Glushko is a show case of high quality research work the reads well and presents author’s independent point of view: • Ms. Glushko selected a topic that is still relatively new in the corporate world, and as her research among students shows is yet to obtain full attention of today generation of students. The topic is highly relevant, and I expect it to achieve even greater importance in the coming years • Ms. Glushko starts from a broad picture of CSR agenda globally, very well describes developments over the decades, captures the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and in detail describes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030. These are indeed as the author presents most relevant for Corporate Social Responsibility both in the Czech Republic, and for the corporations operating in this market • Ms. Glushko provides a thorough definition of gender equality indicators and different indexes that have been used to assess gender equality. What adds an interesting flavor is her research to what extent is the current student generation familiar with the basic gender equality terms • Ms. Glushko presents a thorough analysis of CSR and gender equality topic for three major Czech financial institutions, both in the local subsidiaries operating on the Czech market, and in their shareholders. By doing so, she could assess the level of impact of CSR state of art in the shareholder bank vis-à-vis its Czech daughter company • What I find especially interesting, the Ms. Glushko not only analyzed the approach of selected financial institutions, but also conducted a thorough research among students. This way she could not only assess the current situation, but also predict the speed of CSR future development with the students entering the active workforce
Overall Ms. Glushko set for her thesis ambitious goals that go beyond standard research. Not only she analyzed well the current CSR situation, summarized all the relevant terms and statistical indexes, but offered a critical view of the situation that is based on her findings. I consider her thesis as highly relevant for the current and future corporate world CSR agenda. This thesis would be certainly a very interesting reading for the top management of the banks analyzed, but also for other corporations.
Questions: 1. Which of the gender equality indicators or indexes do you consider the best reflection of the actual gender equality situation in a corporation or in a country, and why 2. To what extent do you believe that the importance of CSR agenda in the foreign shareholder bank influences the level of CSR
importance in the Czech daughter company, and what evidence do you offer based on your analysis of 3 leading Czech financial institutions? 3. Why do you think is the gender topic not always considered a top priority for Czech students, and do you expect the situation to improve over the time and why?
Conclusion: The Bachelor Thesis is recommended for the defence.
