The pandemic’s impact on the young people's well-being

Bc. Tatiana Gudkova

The main goals of the Master’s thesis are to identify the influence of self-isolation on young people’s mental health during the pandemic time, to outline the main stressors and emotions as well as common coping strategies and then offer possible recommendations for maintaining a balanced mental health.

The goals of the thesis are ecvident, clearly formulated and

accomplished.

The data from in-depths interviews illustrate the negative impact of pandemic situation on mental health of young people from the research sample as well as help to examine the stressors that were common among all respondents’ answers. The results on the role of social media and technology, coping strategies and the challenges for

self-development during pandemic times bring unique personal

experiences of respondents. Discussion chapter summarizes the results of the primary research study, but I lack the comparison of its results with other relevant research studies. The recommendations which can help to maintain well-being level during uncertain times have practical relevance.

Demonstration of an in-depth understanding of the topic area (state-of-the-art) including key concepts, terminology, theories, definitions, etc. based on a literature survey. Literature review.

The theoretical part is introduced by the chapters on mental health and well-being, which contain basic definitions and relevant theoretical concepts. It is similar in the following chapters, which are devoted to stress, stress management and coping strategies. I appreciate the chapter on loneliness and the problems associated with it. The final chapter of the theoretical part brings very current knowledge from the literature on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health. At the end of the theoretical part of the work I miss a brief summary of the basic theses relevant to the author's research study. Overall, the author demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the topic area based on a relevant literature review.

The structure of the theisis forms a logical well-organised whole.

Linguistic and terminological level is adequate.

The Master’s thesis adequately meets the formal requirements (including the abstract and the extent).

The methodological part of the thesis is elaborated thorough fully and

adequately. It includes the description of the subject and objectives of the qualitative research study, formulated research questions (based on the secondary analysis of the latest research studies on the topic), description of the sample examined (12 participants) and methods of data gathering (in -depth interviews being the main data gathering methods) and data analyzing. I appreciate a description of the sequel steps of the thematic analysis and following outline of 24 revealed codes and their division into 5 groups, which form a basis for subsequent data interpretation.
