Konkrétní připomínky a dotazy k práci:
Bachelor thesis by Darya Chopenko deals with US labor market effects of economic crises. It aims at contributing to the study of global financial crisis, by attempting to identify the groups affected by the financial crises the most, during the 2007 crisis as well as the current crisis that is caused by the
pandemic. After a relatively thorough literature review the thesis applies econometric models on the data obtained from the ILO databank. Even though the plan of the thesis sound promising, the thesis has several deficiencies. First, the aim is rather limited in relation to title. The author justifies this by availability of data, which is not sufficient in my view. Secondly, the thesis is very inconsistent in several aspects including depth of analysis, detail, or even language. This can be partly caused by the fact, that the fist version had to be added in a relatively short period of time. This, however, does not justify all the cases.
Thirdly, even though the thesis applies some developed statistical tools, results interpretation does not show complete understanding of the tools and test taken. Theses issues should be discussed during the defense. As a result, the thesis meets basic requirements,I do recommend it for defense, and suggest that it is evaluated with grade three.
Following questions could be discussed during the defense:
1. Is there any general pattern of how US labor markets return to pre-crises levels after major economic disruptions? Do you expect them to be similar in Europe or Asia? Why? Why not?
2. Which regions, education groups, and age groups were affected the most by the Great Recession and COVID-19 crisis? Why are some of them different?
Závěr: Bakalářskou práci doporučuji k obhajobě.
