Tudors ruled England from the end of 15. century to beginnig of 17.

They founded protestant Anglican church

Stuarts took up the royal throne after Tudors

Beginning of colonisation of America in 1607 – the first colony Jamestown

The English Republic The English Republic

In 1642 there were disputes between the Parliament and King Charles I - defeated and executed in 1649.

It was proclaimed Republic and Oliver Cromwell became the protector of the country. After his death Charles II

returned to the throne and the monarchy was restored

Wales was added to England in 1534, Scotland in 1707, Ireland in 1800 and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was established in 1801.

In 19. century – Victorian era - Queen Victoria - Britain became the world's greatest power

Colonies in India, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa

Beginning of the 20th century - war with Germany

During the First World War - more than a million British died on the Western Front

Britain eventually was one of the winners, but after war most of Ireland expelled from Britain - they declared independence
