Reflection on landscape change:

the European perspective

Second Call for Abstracts

The organizers of the 25th Session of the Permanent European Conference for the Study of the Rural Landscape (PECSRL) cordially invite you to submit an abstract for a paper presentation or an individual poster.

The conference will be held in Leeuwarden and Terschelling, The Netherlands, from August 20 to August 24, 2012.

This conference allows you to present your recent work to an engaged audience of professional peers.

Themes

Regarding the overall title of the 2012 conference, papers and posters are invited on the following key topics:

Rural landscape and urbanization in Europe: the present and the future Theoretical and methodological considerations of landscape change Coasts and islands

The mutual relation of landscape and tourism

Nature conservation as a driving force for landscape change Energy production and the landscape

Participation of the public in research, policy and management of landscapes Commons

Paper sessions

During the conference there will be eight paper sessions, with a maximum of four parallel sessions. Three sessions are scheduled for two hours and five for one and a half hour. Each paper in a session gets 30 minutes. The oral presentation should not exceed 20 minutes, in order to enable at least 10 minutes for a discussion of the content.

Poster session

During the first two conference days in Leeuwarden there will be ample room for poster presentations. We welcome posters on applied research projects, on project proposals and project outlines. We especially welcome posters by students on their daring and /or innovative projects on landscape topics.

The main themes are not meant to exclude other landscape topics. The submission of proposals for a special session is encouraged. Send your proposal to

Abstract submission

Abstracts may only be submitted online via the conference website

Submissions via fax or mail will not be considered.

The conference language is English. The author(s) are responsible for the content and language of the submitted abstract. Accepted abstracts will be included in the conference program only if at least one of its authors is registered for the conference.

Abstract review

Abstracts of papers and posters will be reviewed and considered for presentation by the scientific committee. At least two reviewers will evaluate each submitted abstract.

The best 25 papers will be published in a book after the conference.

Important dates

Abstracts should be submitted before December 1, 2011.

Notification of acceptance: January 15, 2012.

The PECSRL 2012 conference will be hosted by the Fryske Akademy (Frisian Academy), situated in Leeuwarden, the capital of the Dutch province Friesland.

Instructions for Abstract Submission

When submitting an abstract for a paper presentation or a poster presentation, please follow the next rules.

The text should include a brief introduction, description of methods, results, discussion and conclusion. Submit text only (no figures, no references)

- Preferably use MS-Word ;

o Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt;

o Spacing: single line spacing;

o Allignement: left

- Number of words: minimal 300, maximal 400 words

- Title: in CAPITAL letters

- Name author(s): full first name and family name, no titles - Affiliation: name of institution or company, town and country - E-mail adress of author(s)

- Keywords: add five keywords

- Indicate in which conference theme your paper is suitable

- For those who intend to present a poster: poster size should be A1 or A2.

In submitting an abstract, you are asked to certify the following:

- The abstract is an original contribution.

- You hereby grant permission on behalf of yourself and all other authors of the abstract for the PECSRL conference organizers to publish it on the conference website and any other conference-related publication deemed appropriate for this conference.

- You further agree that if your abstract is accepted, you will attend the Conference to present your paper or that you or a co-author will attend to present the poster.
