I really appreciate the topic which is non-orthodox and highly relevant. The choose topic requires developed erudition of theoretical economics and econometric as well. The thesis structure is logical and transparent, it is a standard structure of an academic article. The main hypothesis is formulated very clearly.The final thesis corresponds to the assignment.
In the theoretical part I would prefer more complex analysis of price determination of agricultural commodities. I miss deeper theoretical background (real economic theory). In general, the commodity market deserves more attention. In chapters 1.3 and 1.4 I see a very good literature review.
The practical part declares that author understands the topic and used relevant econometric methods. He used two models to test author’s hypothesis (testing the relationship between prices of agricultural commodities and monetary policy). I appreciate the system of presented findings which helped step-by-step to understand the model and its result. However, in the conclusion I miss deeper discussion and comparison to the current empirical research.
Figures and tables have standard form. The stylistic level of the thesis is good. The text is easy to follow. The language used in the bachelor's thesis is sometimes quite colloquial. Citations and references have a standard academic form. In some charts/figures I am missing data source (are all tables in chapter 2.3 author’s own calculations?)
Complex assessment (it is necessary to state whether the thesis complies with the Methodological guidelines of the Faculty of Economics, University of Economics, Prague as concerns the quality of the content, the extent and formal requirements and whether the thesis is being recommended to the defense or not; the thesis can also be nominated to a special award, etc.):
The complexity of both theoretical and practical part is adequate for a bachelor thesis and there is no doubt, there is an added value in the results of author’s empirical model. This is a good basis for standard academic article. The thesis meets all the formal requirements for the thesis at the Faculty of Economics. I fully recommend the thesis for defense.
Questions to the defense:
In your thesis there are analyzed three selected commodities. The soy and corn are among TOP10 tradable commodities in general. According to your research, how would you analyze the cotton, which is an agricultural commodity using in non-food industry.
