Verbal assessment (describe the strongest and weakest aspects of the thesis; especially in case of a low assessment 3-4, concrete reproaches need to be expressed):

This thesis deals with an interesting topic and reflects up-to-date reality. The abstract provides a good overview of goal, hypotheses, methodology and results. The thesis is well structured and clearly follows its goal – “analysing velocity of money in China”. This somewhat general goal is specified in 3 hypothesis which give the thesis a straightforward direction.

The theoretical part provides a useful literature overview. It is very informative and relevant for the practical part.

Much of value added consists in the practical part. The author proceeds with much care with formulating, testing and discussing the hypothesis and formulates arguments for decreasing velocity of money in China. The author deals well with statistical tasks. Results are presented in a very convenient manner for the reader – through graphs and tables. I appreciate author’s own construction of charts and tables which make the text pleasure-to-read.

Conclusions are very straightforward and clearly formulated, results are well interpreted and set in the economic theory background. I appreciate that the author employed own results in formulating policy recommendations possibly exploitable by regulators.

This is an excellent thesis regarding its content. Unfortunately, language and grammar proofreading should have been done with more care. Understanding of some parts is painful.

Complex assessment (it is necessary to state whether the thesis complies with the Methodological guidelines of the Faculty of Economics, University of Economics, Prague as concerns the quality of the content, the extent and formal requirements and whether the thesis is being recommended to the defense or not; the thesis can also be nominated to a special award, etc. ):

This is an excellent thesis. It has an obvious value added, it is well structured, related to the economic theory and linked to current research. This thesis is a valuable contribution to the current debate on modern factors influencing velocity of money.

Questions to the defense:

1. One of the economic factors mentioned influencing velocity of money (p. 27) is “saving rate”. Economists frequently use the variable “propensity to save”. It is not clear to me from the text what is the difference between saving rate and propensity to save.
