Master´s Thesis Evaluation by the Opponent

Title of the Master´s Thesis:

CSR: Aiding or abetting?

Author of the Master´s Thesis:

Andrey Smolyakov

Goals of the Master´s Thesis:

To scrutinize the ways CSR projects are being presented and to look closely for disruptions between the  ways CSR projects are being presented and the impact they might actually have.

Evaluation:

Criteria  Description  Max.

points

Points

Content 70%

Output Quality  Results are well discussed however the way the findings are presented lacks  on a clarity. The presentation would benefit from a better organization of  findings. The findings are relevant and substantiated with a limited practical  relevance. I would expect also bit deeper discussion specifically after each  case.

Goals  The goals of this thesis are mostly met.

Methodology:  The study draws on a critical reading of a relevant literature and a

comparison of the conflicting approaches. Methods are adequate to pre‐set  goals. Better organization and some qualitative data might be useful.

The author demonstrated well the state‐of‐the‐art in the field of CSR

Citing:  In some cases, the APA standard is not met. Often, there are no sources  indicated in case of figures, tables etc.

Delivery 15 %  Presentation

document:

Is the presentation itself structured in a clear way? Is it appealing and easy to

follow? Does it convey the message efficiently?  5

Presentation  skills:

Are you conveying the message efficiently and timely? Do you use

appropriate words, speed, tone of voice, gestures, movement etc. to express

your thoughts in a clear manner?  5

Argumentation:  Are you able to readily and briskly react to questions or comments? Are you  able to explain unclear parts and connect comments to relevant places in  your presentation or parts of particular analyses? How well are you able to  defend to your ideas and recommendations?

Other comments:

None

Questions or comments to be discussed during the thesis defence:

If CSR does not meet its goals should companies cancel their ongoing humanitarian/environmental programs?

Regarding the CSR, what can business/management studies learn from anthropology?
