Comments and Questions:
The submitted bachelor thesis deals with the interesting topic of capital availability and economic growth.
Even though one has to consider the high complexity of the topic for a bachelor level student, the submitted thesis demonstrates significant shortcomings. The major deficiency is the superficiality of all three chapters. The second most severe drawback is then the lack of interconnectedness among the three chapters. Moreover, the second chapter provides the rather unnecessary historical background of the German financial system, which distracts the author from analysing the relevant attributes of the current German financial system.
The third chapter, which was most likely meant to follow up on the German financial system and provide arguments to fulfil the aim of the thesis, consists of mere 4 pages, most of which are filled with tables containing statistics about investments, loans and startups. Unfortunately, due to the limited space
dedicated to this part, the comments are too short to submit any substantiated argument useful to evaluate the effects of the German financial system, i.e. to fulfil the aim of the thesis.
In addition to the factual imperfections, the thesis was submitted in a rush, manifested by multiple flaws in text formatting and formal requisites (especially those related to figures).
Thesis defence questions:
1. Discuss whether capital availability for companies differs among euro area economies. If so, what are the determinants of capital availability in the euro area?
2. Discuss causes of rather an average number of startups in Germany in comparison to the other EU member states.
Conclusion: The Bachelor Thesis is not recommended for the defence.
