Konkrétní připomínky a dotazy k práci:
The thesis is focused on a very interesting and current topic of the foreign policy of Cyprus and its relation to Russia. The main aim of the thesis is clear, unfortunately, the overall research design seems to be a bit chaotic. The whole structure remains fragmented, it is hard to identify what all the pieces of the theory are and where the empirical section starts. There are parts on CFSP of the EU, on Cyprus-Russia bilateral relations, and on Foreign policy of Cyprus which I would recommend to include in the empirical section.
Secondly, the relation between constructivism and Europeanization is not sufficiently established. The concept of Europeanization and the constructivist approach are treated as two separate tools for analysis.
At least, this is the idea I have from the theoretical section and also from the empirical part. In the literature, however, these two are directly linked together (Checkel 2005, Risse 2003, Schimmelfennig 2005, etc.). Third, a coherent section on methodology in the thesis is missing completely. There are multiple methods identified. They are briefly introduced at the beginning of the thesis, but later, in the text, it is not clearly stated how the analysis of the collected data looks like. The author, for instance, mentions the use of discourse analysis, but not much further information on this method is provided in the text.
Moreover, there is a survey included with 12 respondents, but again we do not know much about it – when was the survey conducted, how, what questions were asked? Overall, and despite the above-mentioned remarks, I still think that the thesis is well written (the formal, language, and stylistic arrangement is well prepared), and the topic is examined thoroughly. I also welcome the own research and the attempt to combine different methods of analysis. Hence, I recommend the thesis for defense. My question for defense is: How does Cyprus perceive the current bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia? What is the role of Turkey in the EU-Cyprus-Russia relations?
Závěr: Bakalářskou práci doporučuji k obhajobě.
